Christmas tree 0

One of the joys of this time of year is putting up the Christmas tree…well it’s suppose to be. They don’t put trees out here usually until later in December, at least wide spread that is. But, we found one, about 30 minutes away by public transportation and a four block walk to our place. We bought a plastic tree stand as well. The boys were excited! We get the tree in the house, move the furniture, get the stand ready….and well, the trunk is too big for the stand. We have to wait until we could get a small hand saw from a friend the next day. The boys were so disappointed.  By the way, have you ever tried to saw off some of a fur tree going against the grain? It’s not fast or easy. We finally sawed off the sides we needed to get it to fit into the stand. As we started looking through our Christmas trunk we found many broken items from the flight over but…no lights. Of course I’m worn out from all the sawing and it was already late, but I knew how disappointed the boys would be if we put it off another day…again.  I knew they wanted to decorate so I headed off to the store 30 minutes away. It took a while to get back because the trams were running slow. I got home, took the lights out…and low and behold, they’re CURTAIN LIGHTS. I’ve never heard of curtain lights either! At this point, I’m thinking they ARE going on this tree. We figured out a way to turn them sideways and get them looking pretty decent. The boys finally got to decorate, and all is well. At least we will all have a fond memory of the year we had “curtain lights” on the tree.
